Wisdom and safety

I would urge you to educate yourself and gain discernment with regards to the common ingredients in many skincare products and toiletries.

Lets start with a few:
Sodium Laurel Sulphate
Sodium Laurel Sulphate (SLS) or Sodium Dodecly Sulphate is an anionic surfactant, used in many cleaning and hygiene products.
SLS is a highly effective surfactant used in any task requiring the removal of oily stains and residues. It is found in high concentrations in Industrial products including engine degreasers, floor cleaners and car wash soaps, in household products SLS is used in lower concentrations in toothpastes, shampoos, shaving foams and bubblebath formulations for its thickening effect and its ability to ceate a lather.
Like all detergent surfactants, including soaps SLS removes oils from the skin and can cause skin and eye irritation, it is a known sensitiser and irritant.
Sodium Laureth Sulphate
Sodium Laureth Sulphate or Sodium Lauryl Ether Sulphate (SLES)is a detergent and surfactant found in many personal care products i.e. soaps, shampoos, toothpastes etc, it is an inexpensive and very effective foaming agent. It is used for its cleansing and emulsifying properties SLES can cause serious irritation after extended exposure in some people. SLES and SLS and products containing them, have been found to contain low levels of the known carcinogen 1,4-dioxane, with the recommendation, that these levels be monitored.
Paraben
Parabens are a group of Chemicals widely used as preservatives in the skincare and pharmaceutical industries.
They have been linked to an estrogenic effect from being exposed to continued use of parabens as preservatives.
It is a known medical fact that estrogen stimulates breast cancer and that substances absorb through the skin maybe as high as ten times the concentration of an oral dose. Parabens are a low cost preservative to extend the shelf life of products such as moisturisers and cleansers.
Phthalates
Thalates or Phthalates esters, are esters of Phthalic acid, and are mainly used as plasticizers (substances added to plastics to increase their flexibility, transparency, durability and longevity.
Personal care items containing Phthalates include perfume, eyeshadow, moisturiser, nail polish, liquid soap, and hairspray.
In studies of Rodents exposed to certain Phthalates, high doses have been shown to change hormone levels and cause birth defects.
The use of some Phthalates has been restricted in the European Union for use in childrens toys since 1999.
These are just an example, please do your own research, it is a very serious matter.
